8th Man's lesson to tech entrepreneurs
12th of July 2007 >
DESPITE THE government's well-intentioned plan to encourage small business start-ups, the modern business world can be fraught with problems for the small entrepreneur.
This is according to 8th Man Consulting's Adrian van der Merwe, who sold a 49% share in his young firm to the larger and more established Knowledge Integration Dynamics (KID) in January of this year.
He says that 8th Man has seen considerable benefits from the KID deal, growing at a much faster rate than it would have done alone.
"There are some basic micro business problems that you circumvent," he says. He lists the main benefits of bringing a partner on board as being:
- Access to infrastructure
- Access to capital
- BEE compliance and accreditation
- Minimising personal liability risk
- Tap into existing client bases.
